Age of wonders 3 class or simultaneous turns12/25/2023 Just the eye contact and this simple statement dis-alarms swimmers and gives them the much needed control in the situation. ![]() Oddly enough the first step is connecting with them that they do not have to get in the water until they are ready. Over the years I have been able to refign a great method that both respects swimmer and their needs along with helping them come in the water and practice on their own. I’m observing pool side and and reminded how hard it can be for some swimmers to acclimate to the water and take the first couple steps to getting in. Continue to be that person of influence to them. This may very well be the first time a child hears this. This was not meant to be an overnight fix, but rather a challenge to better herself and take control of her goals and aspirations. She looked at me with a processing stare. The swimmers loved this, except the one who was giving half effort. Can you kick harder, swim faster, swim further, increase the technique of your stroke? What can you do to help yourself? I stopped the class at one point and asked a question “if you are bored, who has the power to fix that?” Crickets I retorted, you do! I let the kids know they were all great, safe, strong swimmers, but if they were feeling bored, they needed to think about how to challenge themselves. I knew she was a capable swimmer, but her side comments and lack of attention was starting to be contagious to the swimmers around her. At swim team tonight, I had one girl, older, that was giving half effort. A conversation in the means of a teaching moment is a great way to do this. In these times, I like to take a side step and hand that boredom back to that swimmer. ![]() Wether they say it with their bodies or with their words, some swimmers get bored, to no fault or lack of teaching, and it can be detrimental to the productivity of a class.
